Inuit Presentation

On Tuesday, March 10th, we had the visit of an Inuit who came to talk to the children about his culture. In class, the children were invited to make an Inuksuk, thought to be used by the Inuits as markers for travel routes. We also talked about auroras that can be seen in the North, where Inuits live, and watched a video showing auroras.  The children were invited to represent auroras, using colouring crayons, as a background before making an Inuksuk made out of pieces of black construction paper. Here are our Inusuks:

Pinocchio dans ma valise

On Monday, the children assisted to a French presentation of a play inspired by the story Pinocchio.

The characters in the play were dad (Gepetto),
Pinocchio, renard, chat, oiseau, baleine

Here is what the children had to say about their favourite parts of the play:

Colin: "The instruments were cool. They made lots of noise and different sounds. They used a violin string on the guitar."

Savera: "I liked the instruments."

Noah: "It looked that he was real (who?) Pinocchio."

Giuliana: " I liked the frames (backgrounds). It helps to know where you are."

Akki: "I liked the costumes."

Fouad: "I liked when he was caught in the whale's stomach."

Krishna: "I liked the boat because it just pretended it was floating on water."

Brandon: "My favourite part was the big toothbrush."

Ava: "I liked how he used the funny voices."

Mahmoud: "I liked the cat and the dog (fox) because they were on the building."

Evallie: "My favourite part was the end when we clapped. It ended (the story) when Pinocchio went back home after his school."

Preston: "The backgrounds (why) because it was very nice painted."

Kaitlyn: "The backgrounds (why) because when he was swimming, I liked the background because it was blue like the water."

Faith-Lynn: "I liked the water because the lizard (whale) was in it."

Ivy: (Why did you like the story?)" because it's funny."

Rose: "Pinocchio wore gowns."

Folu: "When Pinocchio's dad made him."

Roberto: " When he lied, his nose got bigger."

Steven: "When they go in the whale's tummy."

Antonio: " His nose would grow long because he wasn't telling the truth."

Rachel: " Got swallowed by a whale."

Clara: "When he was on the bus."

Making Snowflakes

This week, a few students did some snowflakes. Some of the children wanted to see if the snowflakes would glow in the dark.To read more about it you can go under the tab "Activities".

Starr Gymnastics

Last week, the Kindergarten children took part in gymnastics activities in the school gym.  They participated in activities of balance, coordination, strength and flexibility.  You can see a video(s) of your child doing gymnastics in his or her ePortfolio.

Snow

Recently, we did an inquiry about snow (see tab "Our Inquiries"). The children knew many facts about snow and came up with 10 things they would like to learn about snow. One thing they wanted to know is "How to make snow".  Mrs. Gregory shared an experiment that demonstrated how to make snow. This week was perfect, as a requirement was very cold outdoor temperature.

Materials;

• Freshly boiled water
• Really cold outdoor temperature

Dance-a-Thon

On Friday, the children participated in the school dance-a-thon. This activity was organized by the Parent Council in order to raise money to buy a projector for our gym. The children had a great time showing us their dance moves.
